The first year at HSG (University of St. Gallen)
Welcome to the University of St. Gallen! You're now in one of the best business schools in Europe. This reputation comes with a demanding and selective first year (the Assessment), with a heavy workload. Don't worry: regular training with targeted MCQs will give you every chance of passing it with peace of mind.
1. General presentation
The Assessment year brings together all first-year students around a common core. It serves as the gateway to the various HSG Bachelor's programmes and its success rate makes it one of the most selective first years in Switzerland. Regularity in your work — and training on exam-type questions — make all the difference.
2. Programme of the year
The details of the Assessment courses and our feedback are coming soon. In the meantime, you can already train on the available MCQs, aligned with the chapters of the curriculum.
3. Working methods and tools
There's no 'magic' method: it's up to you to find the one that suits you. What makes the difference is organisation — a work plan with specific tasks — and regularity: working through the concepts over the course of the semester, practising on exam-type questions and systematically reviewing your mistakes.
4. Conseils
Find a regular working rhythm and keep it: by working consistently, you reduce the pressure and you can give yourself a break without feeling guilty. Focus on yourself rather than on what others are saying — in the end, it's you who will be facing the exam. And do as many MCQs as possible: it's by testing yourself that you retain the best.
